NewJeans Opens Up About the Shock of Court's Decision to Halt Their Activities
NewJeans, the group that recently announced a hiatus, has openly shared their shock and disappointment following a court's decision to grant a provisional injunction against their activities. In a revealing interview with BBC News Korea, Danielle expressed, "We expected a different outcome, and everyone was truly shocked by the news." Hyein added, "We've endured silently until now, speaking out against the injustice we've faced, yet the situation isn't leaning in our favor socially."
The group emphasized their desire to continue their work without interference, with Danielle stating, "We just want to keep doing what we love, free from lies and misunderstandings." Hanni revealed their deepest fear, saying, "The thought that we might not be able to continue this work is our biggest worry. Two years ago, we never imagined facing such a situation."
Currently, NewJeans is embroiled in a legal battle with their agency, ADOR, after announcing the termination of their exclusive contract last November due to alleged breaches. They've since continued activities under the new group name NJZ. However, a recent court ruling has temporarily barred them from independent music activities until the lawsuit's first trial concludes, a decision NewJeans respects but disputes, citing it overlooks the broken trust with ADOR.
Following their last performance at ComplexCon in Hong Kong, NewJeans announced a pause in activities, assuring fans, "This isn't the end. We'll return with smiles, eager to meet you all again."
