NewJeans Members Challenge Court's Ban on Solo Activities, Hearing Set for April 9
The members of NewJeans are set to challenge the court's decision to prohibit their solo activities, with a hearing scheduled for April 9. According to legal sources on the 26th, the Seoul Central District Court's Civil Agreement Division 50 will hold a hearing on the afternoon of April 9 regarding the objection filed by the five members of NewJeans against the provisional injunction.
Previously, on the 21st, the same court had ruled in favor of ADOR's request for a provisional injunction to prevent the members from engaging in solo activities or signing advertising contracts without the company's approval. The court stated that it was difficult to conclude that ADOR had violated the exclusive contract's key obligations to the extent of irreparably damaging mutual trust, based solely on the arguments and materials submitted by the members.
Following the court's decision, the members are temporarily barred from using the name 'NJZ' or pursuing individual activities without ADOR's prior consent. ADOR expressed gratitude for the court's decision, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the artists. However, NewJeans members respected the court's decision but argued it failed to fully consider the complete breakdown of trust between them and ADOR, leading them to file an objection.
In a related development, the members announced a hiatus from activities during a performance at ComplexCon in Hong Kong on the 23rd, stating, "It's heavy-hearted to share this news. Today's stage might be our last for a while. We've decided to halt all activities out of respect for the court's decision."
