NewJeans Faces Backlash and Legal Battles Amidst Controversy

NewJeans has been under intense scrutiny following a series of interviews amidst their ongoing legal dispute with ADOR. After an interview with TIME magazine on the 22nd, another video interview was released on the 26th via BBC News Korea's YouTube channel, seemingly to address the rumors surrounding Min Hee-jin, the former CEO of ADOR, and the group's alleged behind-the-scenes conflicts.

In the interview, NewJeans stated, "All decisions made over the past year were the result of thorough internal discussions. It feels dismissive when people assume that because we're young, we're not seriously addressing these issues. We've always agreed that unless all five members consent, we wouldn't proceed with any decision," denying the allegations against them.

Despite their efforts to clarify, public opinion remains unfavorable, especially after ADOR's injunction to preserve its status as the group's agency was granted, revealing that many of the claims made by Min and NewJeans about contract violations were distorted. This has led to skepticism towards their BBC interview, with critics pointing out inconsistencies in their statements.

Further complicating matters, NewJeans' recent comments in the TIME interview, which were perceived as disparaging towards the K-pop industry and Korean society, have only exacerbated the backlash. Consequently, their domestic activities are suffering, as evidenced by the Incheon Airport Customs Office's decision not to renew their ambassador contract, citing the lack of expected promotional impact due to the group's restricted activities amidst the management dispute.

NewJeans is now preparing for the main lawsuit regarding the validity of their exclusive contract, with key dates approaching next month. The outcome of these legal battles could significantly influence their future in the industry.
