Legendary Singer Han Myeong-Sook, Icon of 'The Man in the Yellow Shirt', Passes Away at 89
Han Myeong-Sook, a revered figure in the Korean music scene and best known for her hit song 'The Man in the Yellow Shirt', has sadly passed away at the age of 89. Born in 1935 in Jinampo, South Pyongan Province, she made her debut on the US 8th Army stages in 1953 and continued her career until the mid-1980s, despite undergoing two vocal cord surgeries. Her illustrious career was marked by numerous hits including 'Our Village', 'While It's Snowing', 'Sentimental Guitar', 'Ten Years of Sorrow', and 'Love's Song'.
Over the years, Han Myeong-Sook received several accolades for her contributions to Korean music, including the National Culture Medal in 2000, the KBS Song Awards Merit Award in 2003, a commendation from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2010, and the Veteran Singer Award at the 12th Korea Traditional Music Awards in 2012. Her funeral is set to be held at St. Vincent's Hospital Funeral Hall in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
